YOGA & MEDITATION

Seasonally Oriented, Anatomically Informed, Spiritually Infused Yoga

Seth's offers authentic pathways into yoga and meditation practice, rooted in ancient yoga and healing traditions and tailored to our modern day lives. Whether you work with Seth one-on-one or take a group class, you will become more tuned into the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energetics of each season, each time of day, and your own development on the path of yoga. Seth infuses his classes a varied but cohesive collection of practices, including ancient yogic text and wisdom, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Buddhist Meditation, Anatomy, Sound and Music, and his own personal daily yoga and daily living practice.

Seth is a truly remarkable, unique teacher. His enthusiasm and love of yoga and its teachings permeate his classes; besides his deep understanding of anatomy and scripture, Seth is an incredibly kind, patient, caring teacher. His classes are full of learning and laughter, and inspired me to take my first teacher training a few years ago.
— Sophie, yoga teacher & reiki practitioner

Seth offers one-on-one private yoga sessions for people of all ages, physical conditions, and levels of experience. Sessions with Seth are safe, supportive, and entirely centered around your specific needs. Seth's training in Anatomy, Injury Awareness and Prevention, Biomechanics and Kinesiology allows him to give skilled support to those working with specific physical conditions. His experience giving Reiki (energetic healing) tunes him to your energetic and emotional body and allows him to give sensitive, healing touch. His studies of Ayurveda provide another layer of insight into your unique individual make-up and allows him to offer recommendations for daily lifestyle and dietary enhancements. Private sessions with Seth are intended to support you in your discovery of the benefits of yoga practice and how they apply to you specifically. You will not only benefit during the time spent together, but will leave sessions with a greater ability to incorporate yoga and mindfulness into the rest of your life.

After a tumultuous few weeks fighting depression and seeing therapists and psychiatrists, Seth offered to give me a private yoga lesson. His gentle and warm voice guided me through various postures ... His insights as to why we were doing each pose were fascinating and uplifting. His years of study and devout dedication to Yoga are very apparent and he shares his wisdom sincerely and with a touch of contagious glee...Throughout the session I felt comforted, safe and very conscious of the beautiful present. I look forward to a deeper understanding of myself, my body and the spiritual through Seth’s compassionate guidance. I cannot recommend a private session more strongly. I hope this sharing of my experience will help suggest a positive next step for you to take.

Seth's approaches his yoga classes through a creative, experiential and educational lens, usually including a dharma talk (discourse on a spiritual topic), chanting, intelligently designed asana (posture) sequences, movement, and stillness. Seth puts practice in the context of the seasons and how we can tune ourselves to what is happening around us, as informed by Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He weaves mindfulness of the breath and body throughout each class. On a physical level, Seth draws from elements of vinyasa yoga and more alignment-focused styles of yoga. Students leave class feeling nourished, grounded, and uplifted.

Seth’s deep knowledge of asana and yoga philosophy transform my experience of yoga on and off the mat...I always leave Seth’s class feeling radically grounded with a new sense of peace and wonder.

UPCOMING YOGA EVENTS

Nada Yoga workshops are most often requested for 200 or 300 Hour yoga teacher trainings as an introduction to Sanskrit, Nada Yoga (The Yoga of Sound), and Mantra practice, though it is adaptable to any group of students interested in any aspect of these practices. We start with the the subtlest elements of sound, move onto language, and then to chanting and singing. The Nada Yoga segment includes a basic understanding of the relationship between sound and yoga in ancient text and practice. The Sanskrit segment includes basic pronunciation of the letters, how to read English transliterations of Sanskrit words, and how to pronounce different asana names and words in Sanskrit commonly found in yogic text. The Mantra segment includes an introductory look at what Mantra is, how to use it, and how to start a Japa Mala Sadhana (mantra repetition practice). The Kirtan section includes call and response chanting led by Seth.

You will be so much better for knowing and studying with Seth.

Seated meditation practice is not only a way to reduce stress, anxiety, and enhance overall well-being, it is also a way of exploring our deeper nature. In the modern world of "stress, strain, and speed" as yoga guru BKS Iyengar says, we become subject to being overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, and lacking clarity and direction. Meditation practice is one way to restore our minds to a more calm and peaceful state so that we can function more freely in the world and realize our deeper goals and purpose in life. Developing a meditation practice can be challenging, which is why it is helpful to work directly one-on-one with a meditation teacher. Seth provides detailed instruction in seated meditation posture, based on his experience as a yoga teacher, and gives instruction in meditation techniques based on his practice of Buddhist meditation. He also provides guidance on how to create a meditation practice that works for you. Seth recommends that you meet on a weekly basis, which can either be over the phone, via Skype, or in person.

Seth led me through a inner world that I have never seen. A truly surreal awakening.
